We were delighted to welcome around 70 attendees to our recent event at World Travel Market on “Gender Equality in Tourism: How can it be achieved?

Co-hosted with the Central America Women’s Network and chaired by our Director Dr Stroma Cole, the panel discussed the challenges the challenges involved in achieving gender equality in the tourism sector and focussed on strategies for overcoming disparities, drawing on lessons and experiences from around the world.

20151104_140305The panel was made up of three international speakers with a wealth of expertise and practical experience of implementing gender equality: Angela Hadjipateras, Founder of Zalala Beach Lodge in Mozambique and Director of the Central America Women’s Network (CAWN); Sandra Ramos, Director of MEC, a leading women’s rights organisation in Nicaragua partnered with CAWN and Arzu Kutucu Ozenen, chair of Yesil Valiz Association for Responsible Tourism in Turkey.
